Real RIVENDELL
The city of Rivendell is planned to be located in the Lauterbrunnen in the Swiss Alps, where the fictional Rivendell was based off of. The goal is to make the city of Rivendell appear just like the fictional Rivendell in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. The left image is the Valley of Lauterbrunnen, Tolkien's inspiration for Rivendell, with the nearby village of Lauterbrunnen at the bottom-right. The image on the right is Rivendell as shown in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the architectural basis for the real city of Rivendell.

Tolkien's original inspiration for Rivendell. The village of Lauterbrunnen is nearby (shown bottom-right). This is one potential location for Rivendell.

The Company of Thorin Oakenshield arrives at Rivendell through the Hidden Pass in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. Image is screenshot from the aforementioned movie. Rivendell is the property of the Tolkien Estate. No copyright infringement intended.
